THE GROWTH LINES
Gabrielle Hancher

“The poems in this elegant first collection are sonic maps, hieroglyphic whispers echoing the mysteries of the world before the world—those paradoxically partial and complete songs of the womb we all carry within our bodies. Gabby Hancher is tuned exquisitely to the loamy forests of human nature. The poems are mantras invoking the link we know we have to the before of form and the inevitable afterwards, and in between those polarities—the absolute fact that we are one with the earth upon which we stand and one another regardless of gender, color or creed.”

—holaday mason, author of The Red Bowl

“In the growth lines, poet Gabby Hancher invites us to re-inhabit the liminal space of the body we come from and are born into on the human journey. Her poems open our senses to the great feat of being human, which asks each of us to descend into darkness even as we continue to open to our own becoming. The body as starting point, as compass and finally as home, that place of self-love and acceptance of other. Gabby Hancher’s grace as a young poet of our times is unmistakable.”

—Dawn Thompson, Portland Women Writers
